MAY 2007 BIRTHDAY LUNCH
I'll start by saying that we did not stay at Ana y Jose (we rented a house about 10 minutes north), but we dined at their restaurant. We went down to Tulum to celebrate my parents' 40th wedding anniversary. My parents flipped the bill for me and my sisters (and our families), so we wanted to do something really special for them for their anniversary. None of us had ever been down there and none of us spoke Spanish, so we were a bit nervous about how planning would go. I did some research online (including this site) and came across Ana y Jose. I emailed them and several other places in the area about putting together a nice lunch celebration for my parents. Jackie, from Ana y Jose, was the first person to get back to me and was extremely helpful. Not only did she help with things at their restaurant for lunch, she also helped me locate a priest that would renew my parents' vows for them. She arranged to have a cake, champagne, and flower arrangement on the table when we arrived at the restaurant after the vow renewal. Jackie was great.
The service at the restaurant was good. Slow towards the end, but great for the most part. And we weren't complaing, as we were enjoying the view and the white sand floor of the restaurant - and the champagne - very much.
On to the best part...the food. The food was fantastic. It was the best meal any of us had at a restaurant the whole week we were there. The Ceviche Mixta was unbelivable and the chile relleno was great. I ate a little bit of everyone's, and it all was great. Thank goodness my bathing suit was lycra!
So all in all, we were extremely pleased with Ana y Jose. Most importantly, my parents were thrilled and talked about their meal there for the rest of the trip.
APRIL 24TH 2007
My husband and I were married in April, 2007 at Ana Y Jose's Beach Club, about a mile up the beach from their hotel. The new beach club was built to host weddings and others events and everything there exceeded our expectations. All of our guests agreed that it was one of the most beautiful (and fun!) weddings they had ever been to.
I will say that planning a destination wedding in a foreign country, primarily over e-mail, is not for the faint of heart. If you are the type of bride that has very specific ideas about what you want, this type of wedding might not be for you. But if you just want a beautiful setting and don't care if your roses aren't exactly the right shade of pink, then you couldn't pick a better spot.
On the day of the wedding, everything went so smoothly. The staff at the beach club were great. The waiters swept the room (which keeps dinner from dragging on too long) and kept track of what everyone was drinking. When the best man started toasts earlier than planned, the staff immediately came out with the champagne. We had quite the partying crowd, and late into the night the club let us put down some extra money and keep the reception going for another hour.
I will say that one drawback of having our wedding in Tulum was that all outside vendors (band, wait staff, equipment rentals) had to be paid for in cash. Consequently, we ended up having to carry a somewhat uncomfortable amount of cash on the plane. While I've seen some other wedding reviews that have complained about the costs at Ana Y Jose's, I can say that our wedding was by far cheaper than it would have been virtually anywhere in the US and the quality was still excellent. The only exception would be the mariachi band - very overpriced. I paid more for one hour of mariachi than you'd pay for 4 hours of band music in the States. We choose to have the mariachi for an hour and then used our own iPod for the rest of the night (plugged into the beach club's stereo system).
All in all, a wonderful experience. Thanks to Jackie, Franklin, Vanessa, Laura, Nora, and everyone else who helped make it such a special day!
WEDDING FEB 24TH 2007
Hi Jackie!
We can’t tell you enough how wonderful our wedding was! You did such an excellent job and you have this great aura about you that just made us feel at ease. As soon as we met Jim and I both felt comfortable with you and we were confident that the wedding would go smoothly. The balcony was the perfect room for us and the service was amazing. You have the best staff! They are extremely friendly and they were always there to assist us with our requests. Jim and I will never forget our time at Ana y Jose’s and we look forward to our next visit. Ana y Jose and Tulum will always hold a special place in our hearts. Thank you for all you have done for us.
Kyle and Jim
WEDDING FEBRUARY 3RD 2007
My husband and I got married at Ana Y Jose on February 3rd and would highly recommend Ana to any bride! The whole experience was more magical than we ever could have imagined. I was nervous to be planning a wedding over email and thought we would have to sacrifice some level of quality since we could not be in Mexico make every decision. However, Jackie was very patient with us and invested a lot of time into personalizing our wedding the way that we wanted it. Jackie was very responsive over email and did a lot of leg work in Mexico to help us get what we asked for. For example, we were very particular about what kind of band we had at the reception. Jackie introduced us to 4 different bands and had them burn CDs just for us so we could listen to them. After not being excited about the first three bands, Jackie found a band for us from Cancun that was a little more expensive but amazing and worth every cent. The bands name is Banda Amigos and the lead singer, Norma Valdez has one of the best voices I have ever heard at a wedding. Not one person could sit down while she was singing.
All in all, having our wedding at Ana y Jose was the best choice we could have made. It was such a unique and beautiful experience. Most of our guests have written us letters telling us it was the most perfect wedding they have been to. Everyone loved dancing in the sand, with the beautiful turquoise water as a backdrop.
Ana may be a bit more expensive than other places in Tulum but the high quality and great service that you get is well worth the extra costs. Everyone was very attentive to our wedding guests and the whole weekend came off without a hitch.
WEDDING FEBRUARY 3RD 2007 (REVIEW BY MOTHER OF THE BRIDE)
Our daughter was married on the beach at Ana y Jose on Feb 3, 2007 (a full moon that night) There were 85 guests. The wedding was at 4:00, so the light on the water was gorgeous, we had Margaritas (instead of champagne) on the outside deck, then moved into the dining room for the reception. Initially, we were Very Nervous about planning a wedding in Tulum. But Jackie was Fabulous!! Extremely helpful, always available to answer all of our many questions, arranged everything just the way we wanted it to be. We could have not done it without her - she is a real pleasure to work with. Oscar, in the Reservations Dept. was also fabulous, and always helpful with all of our questions, changes, etc. In fact Everyone at Ana was cheerful and very helpful and overall helped to make our "wedding week" magical. Most of our guests stayed for 4-5 days, so we had activities planned during those times - everyone had a ball - including my 91 year old parents! It truly was a Magical wedding - everything exactly as the bride and groom had hoped it would be, and we can think of nothing that we would change. We Highly recommend Ana y Jose for a very special wedding. If there are any nervous mothers of the bride, I would be happy to answer any questions. We all can't wait to go back to Ana, and hope to have a family reunion there soon!
FEBRUARY 2007
Ted and I just got back from our honeymoon yesterday and got your sweet email message. We cannot tell you how grateful we are for all that you all did to make our wedding the most beautiful day we have had in our lives. Ted and I spent the whole first week of our honeymoon talking nonstop about how special our wedding was at Ana. It was just the most perfect experience we could have asked for. We have had friends and family also tell us over and over that it was the best wedding they have been to. So thank you so much for all of the work you put into making it all work so perfectly.
Ted and I will never ever forget that day of February 3rd and you can be assured that we will be back for anniversaries to come. I am trying to convince my whole family to come back for Christmas next year!
Love to everyone there and thanks again for everything.
-Cortney and Ted
WEDDING DECEMBER 2006
My wife and I had our wedding in December 2006 in Tulum and selected Ana Y Jose's charming Hotel and Spa. We had a large group of 60 people that stayed there for 5 days, and were extremely happy with the experience. I recommend this place to anyone thinking of having a destination wedding.
The hotel itself - All of the rooms are well appointed and have an attention to detail that matches with the natural environment. The rooms had mosquito netting, fans above the beds, and were always very clean. They strike an excellent balance between providing a natural undeveloped feeling while providing most of the modern amenities
The food - The food at the wedding as well as at all times during the week were very good. The service in the restaurant is excellent. The grilled lobster is done to perfection.
Traveling logistics- As usual with a large group there were some issues (caused by individuals lack of planning) and the hotel staff quickly came to our rescue and planned appropriately.
The wedding itself - We had the wedding on the beach near the end of the day, and cocktails on the deck, and then the reception in the restaurant. We chose to have a non-legally binding ceremony (then do the legal thing in the states.....don't tell any of our guests) and it was very beautifully done by Nacho Alcocer. Just at the end of the cocktail hour it began to rain very hard (and rained for the next two days). What was great about this, is the staff really didn't miss a beat, and quickly made adjustments to the restaurant so that we were not getting wet. Jackie did a great job communicating with us from the time we were thinking of doing it there, until the end of the night. I would recommend utilizing her and Ana Y Jose's to anyone
The Staff (Last but NOT least) - The last comment i have is that the staff (every single one) were unbelievable from start to finish. They work incredibly hard and long hours but always have a smile on their face. I believe that they love what they do, and this comes across in all their contact with you. Their service is excellent, but not impersonal (In fact i thought of many of them as friends. From Jose's ribbing me about making the matrimonial jump, to Carlos's great sarcasm with our guests, we enjoyed their company through and through).
In fact we went back to Tulum 3 months later (in March) and were unable to stay there because they were booked. During our stay we were hesitant to stop by the hotel because it just would not be the same without the whole group and part of us questioned weather or not the staff would remember us. Well it took them all of 1 minute to recognize us and they all came over to catch up and say hello! We were pleasantly surprised again!
Here is a bottom line for you. We had approximately 60 people there. Around 20% fell violently ill for 24 hrs (not the hotels fault this was a stomach virus that was going across North America at the time), AND it rained constantly for 2 days of the 5 days we were there...........All that considered, EVERY single guest said it was the BEST vacation they had EVER taken!
Thanks staff of Ana Y jose's we will be back again!
BIRTHDAY PARTY NOVEMBER 2006
Planning a celebration for my boyfriends birthday was made super easy at Ana y Jose. My boyfriend is from Europe and is such a spoiled one. He demands and expects only the best and is quite hard to please. I was nervous he wanted to do a Tulum stay.
Naturally, I wanted his birthday to be spectacular and JACKIE helped me organize it with such ease. I came to her with a pretty detailed longwinded list of things I wanted to have and do: ie. a set menu from recipes I gave, a private dinner on the terrace, a totally decorated room, etc., and she handled it with such professionalism, respect and ease. I was left with minimal stress to worry about, so thank God for her! Thanks Jackie!
Not only was the service outstanding especially for Tulum (or Mexico in general), the room, the hotel, the beach and the celebration was a hit. I would absolutely visit time and time again.
We both live here in the Rivera Maya, so believe me when I say that for the area, and the traditional culture, they really are one of the best in service and quality you will find. At least appreciate their effort that they do their best. We certainly did.
Great luck and hope this helps.

We just did our wedding at Ana y Jose, and it surpassed all our expectations. Jackie, Oscar, Garduso, Rene, and all the staff there made planning it easy, and we had an amazing time. All our guests were overwhelmed by how beautiful it was, how much there was to do in the area, what an incredible time everyone had. We've traveled to Tulum several times, and the food at Ana y Jose is the best by far of any place we've eaten. It was absolutely magical, and we'd highly recommend it to anyone.
WEDDING NOVEMBER 2006
Wedding at Ana y Jose in November. It's a beautiful space and a very nice hotel with a fantastic beach. One of the best deals in Tulum. I'm happy to elaborate if anyone is going there to plan their wedding and share our tips and lessons learned. Overall, we were happy with how it turned out, but there are certainly things we would have done differently with the wedding planning. We will likely return to the hotel again for our honeymoon and I highly recommend it as a place to stay.
WEDDNG IN JUNE 2006
My wife and I had our dream wedding at Ana y Jose in June. We had our immediate families and closest friends all stay in the various rooms of the hotel. The hotel is beautiful, comfortable, and very relaxing. It has a simple charm that made it a pleasure for everyone in our party.
Our wedding was held on the beach, with a local official (Nacho) performing a beautiful, moving, non-religious ceremony. Despite weather. com's report of thunderstorms for every day during our stay, it ended up being sunny every day. It rained a few times after 10 PM, but it didn't bother us at all. Jackie (the wedding coordinator) made sure everything was in place. We found it important to have a little trust, and a little flexibility. If you are a nervous nellie who needs to control every detail, you may be a little frustrated since Tulum is far away. But Jackie provided everything we needed, from the wedding photographer (who took the most amazing pictures) to the beautiful cake and flowers and wedding meal and DJ (who played fun tunes that everybody danced to).
I would disregard some of the reviews about bad service. Everyone from the hotel staff to the restaurant went above and beyond to be courteous, helpful, and friendly. Just realize that you're in Mexico, and things move at a slightly slower, more relaxed pace. If you're one of those people who scream on your cell phone at everyone, you might be a little too hyper for this place.
So, I highly highly highly recommed Ana y Jose for a wedding or a vacation. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask
WEDDING MARCH 2006
My husband Patrick and I got married at Ana y Jose in March of this year, and the whole experience was truly exceptional. I emailed back and forth with Jackie for months and months before we arrived, and she was very patient and prompt with her replies. I was worried that I'd be flying blind, but when we arrived, all the arrangements were as we'd planned. Jackie and the staff, continued patient and wonderful at ad libbing, as my guests arrived and all their various needs had to be catered to as well.
I wanted to get married on a pure white sand beach, with gorgeous blue water, and that is exactly what I found at Ana y Jose. The beach is the most beautiful that I've seen in the Yucatan Peninsula. The hotel itself is tastefully appointed and artfully built. The suites and beach front rooms are much nicer than the garden and poolside rooms, not only in decor, but because of the cool ocean breezes. The restaurant is lovely inside with white sand floors, a thatched roof, and a unique woven chandelier that I loved. The food was so so delicious. We ate at quite a few places in the area, and our very own hotel was the best, although it's no secret. The prices reflect this. It's not cheap, but well worth the expense.
I had wanted to have a picnic before my wedding at El Gran Cenote, a spectacular sinkhole in Tulum, and Jackie helped me negotiate with the Mayan elders to close the very popular cenote for a few hours for a private party. We all swam and snorkeled in the sacred clear sweet turquoise water, and brave souls jumped in from the cliff above. The restaurant packed delicious lunches for all my guests. It was a magical afternoon.
Patrick and I got spa treatments together at the hotel spa, the night before our wedding. The massages were incredible. Some of the best we've ever had. The spa itself is tasteful and clean and comfortable. The sound of the waves crashing close by as your worries are rubbed away, was blissful. A few of my friends got spa treatments at other hotels in Tulum, and said that the Om spa was by far the best.
The rehearsal dinner, the night before the wedding was in the intimate little alcove by the bar. The food was delectable. The table setting and presentation was romantic and lovely. But for the sound of the blender making margaritas, the meal and speeches were altogether perfect.
For the wedding itself, the groomsmen and male guests worked with the gardener to build a spectacular huppa out of palm fronds and jungle vegetation on the beach. The ceremony was so special and beautiful. Almost better than I'd imagined it would be. Thank you!! We had lots of spectators on the beach and people seemed so happy for us. One stranger even took pictures and then burned us a CD.
The cocktail hour was on the deck while photographs were taken, and after that the reception was in the restaurant. The wedding feast was fabulous. All my guests with all their dietary requirements were happy and well pleased. We didn't close down the restaurant, which I'm glad for, because all the other vacationers joined in our revelry to dance and laugh with us. One couple had gotten married the same day as us, and were celebrating their anniversary. We had become close with the staff and they danced with us as well. They performed an unbelievable Mayan coffee ceremony where they climbed on each other's shoulders and poured flaming coffee down in an uninterrupted six feet long flow.
From floating and splashing in the ocean with my flower girl and ring bearer, to laying on the beach sipping on a margarita, to dancing with my guests until my feet peeled, to being a barefoot bride in one of the most beautiful places on earth. I'll never forget my week in paradise. Thank you again to Gabby, Carlos, Juanito, Marco, Jackie, Don Alfredo, and everyone else whose names I foolishly can't remember. You were wonderful to be with. You all took special care of us. We'll be back to see you again soon.
WEDDING FEBRUARY 11TH 2006
Congratulations on your baby! We wanted to think all of you from the bottom of our hearts for how amazing the wedding was at Ana y Jose. Every detail of the entire experience FAR exceeded our expectations (which were already high) and we would recommend you (and will) to everyone we know as the best place to have a wedding or even just spend some time. There were many highlights but let me go over a few. First of all the general attitude of everyone there and the atmosphere of hospitality was absolutely perfect. You have some really great people working in the restaurant as well the the cabanas and every single person who was down for the wedding commented to me about how great they were. Your restaurant manager was especially helpful in your understandable absence and went out of his way to ensure that everything went perfectly (and it did). Second (and as you know a big deal for me) was the food. I could not have been more impressed with the presentation, flavoring, creativity and freshness of everything we had while we were there. Everyone is still raving about the food at the restaurant as a whole (we all miss it already) and the wedding menu surpassed even the high quality of the restaurant's regular menu. My personal favorite was the soup actually because it had a very unique taste. I think that was the first time I have had flor de calabaza so the flavors really excited me. I plan on tracking that down here in the US to try and recreate the soup on my own, as well as the rest of the wedding menu. We loved all of it. The cakes as well were excellent. Between the cake from Friday and the wedding cake we really had some top quality desserts, everyone loved those as well. We had some fairly serious food critics there as well and they were all very happy. One of the bridesmaids is a restaurant reviewer for citysearch.com in New York and had this to say about the wedding menu: "Well, my favorite dish was the lobster ceviche. It was my favorite for its simplicity. The quality of ingredients shone through, and it made perfect sense on the beach." Third was the ceremony itself. The Mayan Xaman was the perfect option for us as it turns out. He said everything we were thinking and really made us feel a very strong spiritual bond with the area as well as everyone there. It was the perfect option that made everything amazing and special and we loved it all, so think you very much for finding him. The photographer we had was so impressed with him that she told us this was exactly the way she would do her wedding. I think you made many converts and new friends for Ana y Jose by the way everything was done while we were there. Two of our friends were taking photos to show their families who have had timeshares in Cancun since the 80s so they could convince them to give up Cancun and start coming to Ana y Jose, and one of our friends was talking about coming back to Ana y Jose in the future to write his album. You will definitely be seeing most of us again at one time or another as everyone is still talking about it being their best vacation ever. You are also right about the DJ. He was great and very cool and we all actually enjoyed it when he was playing as well, he’s pretty good! I could go on and on for a while about how amazing everything was but I would end up writing a novel. Just let me finish by saying thank you so much from Elizabeth and I for making the wedding more amazing than we could have imagined and the rest of the week beautiful and pleasant. Our families and friends would also like to thank you as well as they all loved every minute of it and nobody wanted to leave at the end. We hope to be back as soon as we can and I think that goes for everyone else as well.
Muchas Gracias!
Jon & Elizabeth
WEDDING FREBRUARY 2006
My daughter was married at Ana Y Jose on February 11, 2006. We had a wonderful time enhanced by the professional staff at Ana Y Jose. My seventy-six-year-old mother enjoyed every minute. She said it was a trip of a lifetime for her. I wish my daughter and son-in-law's life together will be as wonderful, adventurous, and full of friends and family, as their wedding was at Ana Y Jose.
WEDDING FEBRUARY 2006
We just returned from our wedding at Ana Y Jose on February 11th and I wanted to share with you how wonderful of an experience it was for us. All through the year we watched Tulum with anticipation as hurricane after hurricane blew through, devastating other towns and cities farther north. Luckily each time Tulum reported only minimal damage. By the time we arrived in February, all the palms were standing upright, roofs were repaired and the beach as beautiful as ever. Ana y Jose was nothing short of a dream location for us. We were blessed with no less than 50 close friends and relatives all coming from different parts of the United States to share the week with us, all of whom had raving reviews of the week spent here. I would first like to compliment Oscar, who helped us to track each guests flight and arrange van transportations to and from the hotel. I believe this all went off with no complications - an amazing coordination job. Secondly, he helped us to arrange vans to take a group of 30+ of us on a day tour of Chichen Itza and Valladolid which was also quite an amazing coordination task. The Sian Ka'an guided trip departing from Ana y Jose was one of the best things I have ever done (cenote snorkeling to be exact)! The guide was very knowledgeable and interested in sharing his knowledge (we had about a million questions for him). The rest was pulled together perfectly by Jackie and Franklin, just days before having her baby (congratulations Jackie!). That night, the restaurant set up a sort of rehearsal dinner (there was no actual rehearsal) on the outside patio with a buffet style dinner, torches and lighting which was amazing. A roaming mariachi band (I think they said they go from hotel to hotel) came and played at the tables, which bothered me slightly since we had arranged and PAID for them the next night, however when the REAL band played the next night, there was absolutely no comparison. They blew the roaming band away in costume, number, attitude as well as music. I found no problem paying a higher cost for such quality musicians!
The wedding day also went off smoothly with no problems. We did have a microphone for our 50 guests, and that seemed to work well. At first, we considered the legal ceremony, but when I didn't agree with some of the wording ("serve and obey"), we decided to get the legal work done at home and go with the Mayan ceremony - and am I ever glad that we made that decision! The Xaman and his translator did such an amazing job in making us feel welcome and truly created a bond between all of those present. I would highly recommend doing this type of ceremony if you decide to plan a wedding here. As he finished his last words, drops began to fall from the sky and we all made a dash to the restaurant where the *real* Mariachis began to play. We had intended for them to play poolside while we did more wedding photos, but instead we had to enjoy watching the downpour from under the protection of the restaurant roof. It was beautiful and exhilarating having just RUN away as the ceremony ended! The rest of the reception night was just as amazing. The food, the cake, the waiters friendly attitudes, having all of our close friends and family together in one spot, the dj who came from Cancun (who we were really just renting his equipment from him since all of our friends are djs, but he turned out to be pretty good too!!) all just so wonderful. Ana y Jose is definitely a place that understands quality in a very natural way.
All that said, of course we were very nervous about planning a wedding so far away. Some issues were with how to pay for everything, we had to bring a large amount of cash, and we had to pre-authorize our credit card before we left the country, so I at least was a little insecure about how that was all going to work. (It turned out to work just fine - and probably we would have had these issues with any other type of wedding). We were concerned that our family would feel nervous, which didn't happen, in fact they are all planning to return to Ana y Jose! Also, I think it goes without saying that you need to be able to sort of go with the flow when planning any destination wedding. You have to be ready to accept bad weather, or change of plans or things being different than you imagined and you have to do a LOT of planning and research. For us, this was just the absolute perfect location and the perfect wedding. Thank you so much to all at Ana y Jose and all of our family and friends who joined us. We'll be busy saving up to make an anniversary/family reunion next year! ;)
If anyone is thinking about planning their wedding here and would like to contact me, I would be glad to share stories, advice, and photos with you to help your experience to be as perfect as ours was.
WEDDING FEBRUARY 2006
I was at Ana y Jose at the beginning of Feb. for my sister's wedding. We had the most amazing time and the most amazing weather.
I shared a room (#11) with one of my sisters. We had two full sized beds (maybe queen) that were very comfortable. my sister felt that the pillow was too full for her. I was fine with mine. We loved the candles all over the room, even in the shower. We had a beautiful little patio off the room that we made good use of each day. There was plenty of closet space, only wished we had drawer space of some kind so we didn't have to live out of our suitcases. There was plenty of room and the furnishings were perfect for us.
The service was amazing. We LOVE Carlos and miss him very much :) The dog (we named him Jose) was a true canine friend. We were well taken care of while we were there. The wedding was amazing. The food at every meal was delicious.
I saw many of the rooms due to our party taking over most of the place for a few days and every single one was beautiful
WEDDING FEBRUARY 2006
As someone who has organized events before, I understand the difficulties in pleasing everyone. Coupled with a culinary background, I generally have pretty high standards. With that in mind, I had fairly high expectations when we decided on Ana y Jose for our wedding and I was exceedingly pleased by how far past these expectations they managed to go. We had 50 guests for our wedding and everything that was asked for they were able to provide, and at exceptional levels of quality and service. From the arrangement of transport to and from Tulum to the Cancun airport to the assistance in scheduling a side trip to Chichen Itza for 35 of our guests during the week, everything was well-organized and on schedule and we were very happy with the coordination of these activities by Oscar. On the night before the wedding, we wanted to provide a dinner for our guests and Ana y Jose was happy to provide a delicious beachfront bbq as well as making us a delicious cake so that we could celebrate the birthdays of some of the people that had joined us in Tulum. For the wedding itself, the beachfront service with a Mayan xaman that was organized through Jackie was beautiful and perfect and the reception that followed in the restaurant was also absolutely perfect with incredible regional cuisine expertly and creatively prepared by their very competent chefs. The staff was excellent for this, as they were for the entire week and the DJ that Jackie arranged to bring in from Cancun was excellent as well. As many of the people at the wedding have been or are professional club DJs you can be sure that opinion is not given lightly. We also had the mariachi band play for the cocktail hour following the wedding, and I must say that while I initially thought the price was a little high, once we saw them play we really felt it was worth it for the price. I heard several mariachi bands play during my time in Mexico and none of them came close to these guys. I highly recommend anyone who wants a unique and beautiful wedding to have theirs at Ana y Jose. Jackie and everyone else really came through for us and were very helpful, going the extra mile on every detail and ensuring that everything came off perfectly. If you are looking for a place that offers creative, excellent cuisine as well as making your guests feel like family then look no further. While it may seem like you can get the same thing for cheaper at other locations in the area, I assure you this is not the case. For an event like this, quality is important, and I feel that the people at Ana y Jose recognize this and it shows in the experience. Ours was a perfect one.
I should also comment on the rooms at Ana y Jose as I got a chance to go in most every one of them at one time or another during the week. We stayed in Suite Estrella which is different from the rest of the rooms as it is entirely made of wood and has a ship or cathedral-like ambiance. We really liked this room but if you are the type who likes to sleep late on vacation or noise may bother you then you might be happier with one of the other suites that face the ocean. This is due to its proximity to the restaurant and the music they play in there during the early afternoon. Not a complaint as it didn’t bother us at all, but its useful to know when booking a room. The ocean view suites on the top and bottom floors are excellent and beautifully appointed. I think I would prefer the top floors as they have a bigger deck (underneath is a porch) but either one is very nice. There are also two oceanfront rooms that are like their own little cabanas. These are quite lovely as well with just steps to the beach out your front door. Since we made our reservations initially, all of the rooms have been turned into suites and expanded a bit. This makes all of the rooms excellent now and some of these have been fitted with air conditioning in the expansion. As we had already booked these at the older rates our guests basically got a free suite upgrade which was a nice surprise. I noticed on some other reviews comments about the sewage smell going in to the front of Ana y Jose. This (as has been noted) is due to the eco-friendly waste treatment they have at Ana y Jose. I did notice it once or twice for a minute when walking in but for the most part it was not noticeable and I never heard anyone staying in the back garden rooms mention it so I doubt it was an issue. The quality of the rooms, along with the excellent regular menu in the restaurant and the exceptional service combine to make me give Ana y Jose a strongly positive review. If anyone else is planning a wedding at Ana y Jose or has any specific questions they want to ask, feel free to send me an email at the address listed.
WEDDING JUNE 2005
My husband and I got married at Ana y Jose in late June. In the beginning, I was a little concerned about planning my wedding solely via e-mails having not visited the place at all. I found Ana y Jose by searching the web. Once we got there, it was wonderful!! We stayed for one week at the new suites they built on the second floor, right on the beach. Everything was just wonderful. The staff was very nice and helpful, the food was excellent, the place itself was amazing. We had guests staying with us at Ana y Jose and were also extremely pleased with everything. We had the most intimate and beautiful wedding we could have imagined. We also had the time of our lives! Even our 19 month-old baby was having a great time! Everything I asked for via e-mail was done and prepared the way I wanted it and more. While some people had complained about the prices being a bit high, I truely think is worth every cent, especially when you are trying to keep the place eco-friendly and environmentally sound. It is a place where you become family if you stay long enough. Tulum is a gem and Ana y Jose keep it that way. I truely hope that Tulum keeps it charm of being so beautifully rustic and remote. Not another Cancun or Playa del Carmen. As for us, we are already planning to go back there. So, be ready... We are coming back.
WEDDING MAY, 2005
We discovered Ana y Jose's Charming Hotel and Spa in Tulum, Mexico during a fishing trip to Boca Paila in May 2004. My boyfriend and I toured it, saw a wedding being set up on the beach, and that was it. When were engaged in August, we immediately remembered the magical beauty of this beach and hotel. So, to make this story short, in May 2005, we brought 18 family members from Tennessee and Mississippi, with our priest, to the spot where we first had thoughts of our wedding, and it was the most spectacular, beautiful, loving wedding any one could ever imagine. The owners are extremely helpful, the food is the best I had in Mexico, (and I ate at alot of places from Cancun down to Tulum), and the locals are become your best friends.
Would recommend to everyone who truly wants a unique wedding in a special place. From the stingrays on the beach, to Pepe, the dog that walked down the aisle with me, and the resorts parrots-you fall in love with the critters and people alike.
Carlos, if you read this, our families fell in love with you. I have a picture of you with the guys that I will forward soon. I know you are going to Spain, but hopefully, it will find its way to you!
To Jackie and Alfredo- Thank you for everything and we will see you again soon!!

WEDDING APRIL 30th 2005
My husband and I had our wedding at Ana y Jose on April 30, 2005. We had always planned on having a destination wedding, and wanted it to be very intimate and unique, so having the wedding at a big resort was not an option. We fell in love with Tulum about 5 years ago, and knew it would be the perfect place for our wedding.
Ana y Jose truly is a quaint, charming, and intimate hotel, located directly on the most beautiful beach in Mexico. The natural setting is just amazing, and the rooms/bungalows are gorgeous. The entire resort is extremely well maintained, and the owners, Alfredo and Jackie, were so accommodating to us, and our 36 guests, who also stayed at Ana y Jose. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, not to mention a lot of fun.
For over 4 months straight, I emailed back and forth with Jackie (probably every other day) discussing all the wedding plans, and making all the arrangements. She was SO great...I can’t thank her enough for all her time, help, and effort. She really made us feel that she wanted it to be perfect for us. As if planning a wedding isn’t stressful enough, you can imagine trying to plan a wedding from so far away via email, but Jackie made me feel so comfortable from the start. She handled all my requests wonderfully, and helped organize everything from flowers, chairs, and tables to live music, a dance floor, piñata, and so much more.
Our ceremony was held on Ana y Jose’s white sandy beach just before sunset overlooking the beautiful turquoise water. From there, we moved to the pool area for a cocktail hour with a mariachi band, and finally into Ana y Jose’s restaurant for our reception. The restaurant at Ana y Jose is a large, beautiful, open-air palapa, complete with sand floors, high ceilings, and a signature straw roof. After dinner, we spent the evening dancing to a live salsa band, and at one point were joined on the dance floor by the entire kitchen staff for the Macarena.
Whether you are looking for a spot to have a destination wedding, or just looking for somewhere to spend a nice relaxing vacation, we highly recommend a visit to Ana y Jose.
Ana y Jose is very clean and safe, and the grounds are beautifully landscaped. The food is very good, the service is impeccable, and the margaritas are the best in Tulum! They have a nice pool, which many hotels in the area do not. They offer various spa treatments, activities and excursions to the nearby cenotes, Sian Kaan biosphere, and more. All the people who work here are so friendly and dedicated to making your stay nice and enjoyable, and did I mention how beautiful the place is?
To Jackie, Alfredo, Rene, Carlos, Juanito, Marco, Gaby, Santos, the Kitchen Staff, and everyone else at Ana y Jose—
Thank you for making us feel so welcome, and providing the perfect place to have the wedding of our dreams. Your hotel is one in a million, and we can only hope that the area never loses its charm and intimacy. Thank you for everything!!
Love, Laura & Ted
WEDDING DECEMBER 2003
I found Cabanas Ana & Jose on the internet and with blind faith, asked if they could facilitate my wedding. I was expecting about 1/3 of my dream wedding BUT WHAT I RECEIVED was phenomenal. Dona Ana spent 3 days cooking my meal, my suite was decorated, the restaurant was blocked for my party and there was a twilight wedding on the beach with a perfect 3-piece band. They surpassed my desires and, without a doubt, are amazing.
